I went to a Gamestop to turn in a Playstation 2 slim that I had put towards a full preorder of Bayonetta for my brother to go with the 360 I bought him.

I noticed this raggedy looking kid that was poking around, looking real excited, and he turns to his mom, who’s wearing a grey sweatshirt with cigarette burns and grey sweatpants, obviously super poor. The kid goes “Oh wow, mom, look how cool this one looks!” and he picks up a copy of Gitaroo Man, for the PS2. I was pretty impressed, because that’s probably my second favorite game of all time.

His mom says, pretty gruffly, “That don’t look like it’ll fit in your Gameboy. That’s what we came here to get.” I guess they were Christmas shopping early. It made me kinda sad because the kid looked to be maybe 9 or 10, and he didn’t believe in Santa anymore. The kid looked kinda sad and put it back, then started staring at which GBA game he wanted.

I’ve been pretty depressed for the last couple weeks, but I was kinda happy that this was something I could do something about. So, I did. I turned around and bought the copy of Gitaroo Man, Metal Gear Solid 3 and Gungrave: Overdose (some of my favorite games) then I handed him the bag full of everything, the PS2, the two controllers I had with it and the games. He looked at me and asked why I did and told him, “Because Santa sent me.” And then I looked up at his mom and his mom was crying, and that made me cry, and I left Gamestop a blubbering mess.

Felt fucking great, man.

Dear Rick Santorum,
I can’t even believe you would say this. No. Just, please, stop. The United States of America was founded on the ideals that, and I quote, “Every man is created equal.” This doesn’t matter if it is a white man, black man, homosexual man, heterosexual man, bisexual man, Asian man, Hispanic man, Islamic man, Hindi man, Jewish man, Atheist man, Christian man, or any other man there could possible be. This includes all types of women. You can believe what you want. Sure. Have an opinion. It’s just that we, as in most Americans, don’t all believe what you do. We have our own thoughts, our own feelings, our own bodies, and we should have control of all of these things.
You cannot force a religion onto us, because not all Americans are Christian. You saying “because America is made up of a majority of Americans being Christians and was founded by Christians so, America should be ONLY for Christians!!”, is a bunch of bologna. The majority of the world is Christian. It is not Earth’s main religion, now is it? What about the Jews? Muslims? Atheists? Hindus? Buddhists? They believe what they believe, which is something in the mind that cannot be altered by an outside force. Like love. You cannot control someone to think something, just like you cannot control someone to love someone else.
America was a place people, from all over the world, fled to as immigrants. They wanted to escape hardships in their own countries, flee from dictating rulers who decide their lives for them, or religious persecution. Let me repeat that: Religious persecution. Making the rules of our country based off of the Christian religion is a big step back into the times when people suffered and fled their home countries to have religious freedom. (That defeats the purpose of our country completely.) Remember the Holocaust? People were killed left and right for being Jewish all over Europe. And it wasn’t just the Jews. It was the gays, Jews, and anyone else who didn’t “fit the bill” when it came to their “superior race.” Ironically, Hitler was Jewish, too.
I’m not sure if you’ve been to the Middle East, Burma, countries in Africa, or anywhere else in the world where people are suffering. I haven’t been there myself, but I do see things on the news. The best examples, of what you are, are -you won’t like this- terrorist groups such as the Taliban, who use a theocratic form of government. People in Afghanistan suffer on a daily basis, since the government pushes their Islamic beliefs, however strict, down their throats. That is what you want to make America into. A theocracy. Americans will suffer, especially those who are not Christians.
Think twice before you talk about how everything is about Christians. It’s not, and it never will be. You just want it to be about you, and you want things to go the way you feel should, as a die-hard Christian. There’s nothing wrong with being a die-hard Christian, as long as you don’t stuff your beliefs, religion, and opinions down our throats, forcing us to add it to our own beliefs. Which is actually what you’re doing. It’ll never happen. We will not take your ideals and make them ours, and don’t think we ever will. You’re just making everybody angry when you say such things.
I’m turning eighteen this summer, which means I’ll be able to vote in November. I’ve been paying a lot of attention to the primaries and the election in general. I know who I’m voting for, and it isn’t you. No offence to you personally, but I have beliefs that are too contradictory to yours.
Some of my closest friends are bisexual or gay, and I love them dearly. They’ve done nothing wrong. All they have done is love someone, and that is a sin? Are you aware that it’s a sin to bathe and wear clothing? With your logic, we’re all going to Hell then. I am a woman, and I feel like my body is violated every time I hear you talk about pregnancies caused by rape that are “gifts” from God (or something like that) and should not be aborted no matter what. That is such a major blow to women’s rights, I’m not even sure if you realize that or not.
I want to finish the years of my adolescence, and enter my adulthood, in a country where everyone has the freedom they’ve been promised since the United States was founded. This can never be achieved if you become president. You disrespect everyone and everything I believe in, and a United States president is supposed to represent his people Not himself and his religion. You’ll never represent me.
Sincerely,
Someone whose respect you’ll never have.

I could not have phrased this better myself.

Thank you.
